MEETING: WEDNESDAY, JULY 25, 2018, 6:30 P.M., Monmouth County Library Headquarters, 125 Symmes Drive, Manalapan, NJ. .
DR. EDOARDO MUNGIELLO, will be discussing the recent trend in our nation of removing statues in the public sphere. He will offer some insights into what can possibly be behind the controversy swirling around these actions. His talk will trace the ideas that have informed the debate and will attempt to predict where the controversy will lead. This program is open and free to the public. Light refreshments will be available.
The library has requested that ALL members and attendees use the parking lot off of Alexander Drive (behind the library). There is direct access to all meeting rooms from this parking lot and handicapped parking and access is available.

HEMA GUPTA’s painting,”On Route 520, Holmdel” was awarded the Lelia Wishart Memorial Award of Excellence at the Garden State Watercolor Society’s member show in Middletown in June. She also won First Place at the Bucks County PleinAir festival 2018 for the public Quick Draw event on June 9th. In addition, Hema was a featured artist on Doodlewash, an online community of watercolor artists from around the world.
Freehold Art Society had a display at the June 24th Farmingdale Farmers Market & Make event behind the Wainright House and Museum in Farmingdale, NJ. This outdoor event was fun and very successful. They had a good turnout of both vendors and public visitors. The FAS exhibit got many positive comments about the artwork of the members who participated, (Jane Gavaghen, Carolyn Tischer Bartlett, Jill Barba, Linda Hart and Sandra Kunz) and sales were made. Another Market & Make event is scheduled for July 29th. The FAS will participate again. Any member who wants to exhibit should contact Carolyn Bartlett for details. This year FBAC is hosting the 3rd annual African Diaspora Arts Festival in the heart of Freehold Boro. The festival theme is "I'm every woman” and it is the theme of the next exhibit at The Freehold Art Gallery.
This gallery exhibit will feature local, national and internationally recognized artists. A few artists that are already confirmed: Martryce Roach, Armisey Smith, Adreinne Wheeler, Dawn Gregory, Jo-El Lopez, Mario Robinson and more to be announced. The images will be simply celebrating women of the African Diaspora. They will include mixed media, photography and other more traditional mediums. This exhibition is free and open to the public. 44th Annual Monmouth County Fair is July 25–29, 2018. Anyone interested in entering the Art Competition must bring their piece, framed and wired for hanging (no larger than 36”x36”) to the fairgrounds on Sunday, July 22, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. or Monday, July 23, 8 to 11 a.m. This is an amateur competition open to any County resident.
