SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2018 NEWSLETTER
MEETING: WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 2018, 6:30 P.M., Monmouth County Library Headquarters, 125 Symmes Drive, Manalapan, NJ.
This will be a fun interactive evening. There will be a Still Life set up for all members and guests to draw, paint or photograph. Participation is the theme of the night. Just bring whatever art materials you would like to use, and have a good time creating your own interpretation, while enjoying the camaraderie of friends.
This program is open and free to the public. Light refreshments will be available.
The Library has requested that ALL members and attendees use the parking lot off of Alexander Drive (behind the library). There is direct access to all meeting rooms from this parking lot and handicapped parking and access is available.
Freehold Art Society once again has an exhibit of work by 6 of our members at historic WAINRIGHT HOUSE & MUSEUM, 48 Main St., Farmingdale, NJ.
Members exhibiting are VICKY CULVER, LYNNE FATA, HEMA GUPTA, LINDA KERNIS, KAREN MARTIN and VALERIE RIGAZIO. A reception will be held on September 9, 2018, 1 to 4 p.m. The show will remain on exhibit until September 29. Hours are Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m.
Freehold Art Society participated again in the Farmingdale Farmers’ Make and Market outdoor event, July 29th. Carolyn Tischer Bartlett and Jane Gavaghen put in the whole day on site. Jill Barba brought a number of paintings for the display and helped with the cleanup.. On August 26th Carolyn was joined by Avram and Marcia Shapiro for the day. Hema Gupta brought several paintings for the exhibit and helped with cleanup. We handed out information about the Art Society and the overall response to our display was positive. Several small pieces were sold. We plan to be on hand for the next Market, September 29, 9 am-3 pm. representing Freehold Art Society.
Several of our members won awards at the recent Monmouth County Senior Citizen Art Competition 2018. Karen Martin won 1st in non-pro acylic. Valerie Rigazio won honorable mention in the non-pro pastel group. Paul Pugliese won 1st in pro sculpture. Richard Talbot won 2nd in pro oils and Joel Stern won 3rd. Carolyn Tischer Bartlett won 2nd in pro pastel. Congratulations to all. If I missed any member who won an award, I apologize for the omission.

The Prospectus for the next Open Exhibit at the Freehold Public Library is in this newsletter. Please read it carefully, as some guidelines have changed. Linda Hart, the volunteer director of this show, also asks that you try to keep a record of the paintings you enter in these shows, as she regrets having to turn away anyone who brings a piece previously shown there.
Freehold Art Gallery is now hosting an exhibit featuring the African Diaspora show “I Am Woman” highlighting women. This exhibit will close on Sunday, September 16. FAS Member, Richard (Pete) Talbot will be one of the featured artists at the gallery for the show opening on September 21. Artists are encouraged to bring work to the gallery for that next show to hang in our Main Gallery. Check with the Gallery for dates and times of receiving. The opening reception at the Gallery will be on September 21, a Friday, at 7 p.m.
Freehold Borough Arts Council is holding its Annual Arts and Crafts event in the Park Avenue School Gym, 280 Park Ave, Freehold, Saturday, December 1, 2018. $35, table will be provided. More information will follow in the next newsletter and by e-mail.
Several FAS members took advantage of the invitation to work Plein Air at Calgo Gardens on Sunday July 22. The location was absolutely beautiful and the day
was just as nice. Calgo was very welcoming and it was a pleasant experience
